Go Healthy Houston, Houston Restaurant Weeks Partner To Promote Dining Out Healthy (Corrected Prices)

August 1, 2016

The Go Healthy Houston Taskforce is partnering with the annual fundraiser Houston Restaurant Weeks for the third consecutive year to promote nutritious menu options. Forty percent of Houston adults reported eating less than one fruit a day, according to the 2013 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance Survey. Furthermore, only 14.5 percent of Houstonians ate the recommended 5 servings of fruits and vegetables a day.

A complete list of restaurants offering Go Healthy Houston options for Houston Restaurant Weeks is available at Go Healthy Houston Week

Houstonians supporting the fundraiser August 1 to September 5 can select menu course options prepared healthy and featuring fruits and vegetables. Go Healthy Houston-approved course options are labeled with the GHH icon on the restaurant menus and may be found online at www.houstonrestaurantweeks.com.

GHH-approved options met the following three criteria:

1) Menu course options that are not fried
2) Menu course options that combine to equal at least 3 servings of fruits and vegetables
3) Menus that provides a fruit-only dessert or no dessert option

The Houston Restaurant Weeks benefits the Houston Food Bank — the largest food bank in U.S, in leading the fight against hunger. Diners can choose dishes from multi-course, fixed priced menus at $20 for brunch or lunch and $25, $35 or $45 for dinner. A $20 brunch or lunch generates a $3 donation from the participating restaurants, a $25 dinner generates $4, a $35 dinner generates $5 and a $45 dinner generates $7. With every dollar generated, the Houston Food Bank can provide 3 meals to those in need.

Go Healthy Houston Taskforce works to improve the health of all Houstonians by increasing access to healthy foods, physical activity, and smoke-free places — making the healthy choice, the easy choice. For more information, visit www.gohealthyhouston.org.
