City of Houston activates heat emergency plan. Libraries, multi-service centers and community centers available as cooling centers.
The City of Houston is re-activating its Public Health Heat Emergency Plan, providing resources for people to take refuge from extreme heat Wednesday (July 12) through Sunday (July 16).
A majority of Houston's public libraries will open on Saturday so people without air conditioning can take refuge from the heat. The YMCA of Greater Houston will also open its locations as cooling centers.
Houstonians needing to take refuge from the heat over the weekend due to lack of air conditioning can visit City of Houston libraries on Saturday and two multi-service centers or a community center on Sunday.
See to Succeed, a Houston Health Department program helping address the critical need for vision care by providing free eye exams and eyeglasses to underserved children, reached a milestone Friday. The program served its 100,000th child from the Houston area.
Houston’s most popular baby names for 2022 are Liam, Noah and Mateo and Emma, Olivia and Camila, the Houston Health Department announced today.
Records maintained by the department’s Bureau of Vital Statistics show Liam as the top name for baby boys followed by Noah in second place, holding on to the same rankings since at least 2018. Mateo has taken the third spot since 2019.
