The City of Houston has activated it’s Heat Emergency Plan. The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory for southeast Texas, Thursday, August 31. A heat advisory is issued when the heat index, a computation of the air temperature and humidity, reaches 108 degrees for two consecutive days.

The Urban AIDS Ministry Task Force (UAM), a coalition of African-American spiritual leaders, churches and faith based organizations working to prevent HIV/AIDS among African-Americans in Houston, announced plans to host the Black Church Lights the Way: The Black Church HIV Testing Campaign in Houston. The event will be held on June 16, 2000, at the Bread of Life, Inc., located at 2019 Crawford at Gray.
