Acknowledgement of Paternity
- An Acknowledgement of Paternity (AOP) is a legal document that allows parents who aren't married to establish legal paternity.
- Biological parents who want to establish their child’s legal rights to his or her father can voluntarily establish paternity with an AOP.
- Call us for an appointment at 832-393-4220.
- Both parents need to be present for an appointment.
- If the other parent is in the military, incarcerated, or living in a different city or state, contact the AOP Hotline at 866-255-2006. Find other AOP locations around Houston or Harris County.
Evaluate whether the following questions are true or false. If you answer true to all the questions, call us for an appointment.
- The parents were unmarried when their child was born and there is no presumed father.
- All parties to the AOP are certain that the man who wants to sign the AOP is the biological father.
- Both biological parents want to voluntarily establish legal paternity for their child.
- All parties to the AOP are capable of understanding the legal consequences of signing the document.
